Role Summary

The role will expose you to a variety of patient facing environments that will contributed to your professional and clinical development. You will be responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency situations and transporting ambulant/non-ambulant patients whilst ensuring that the patient receives high quality, professional and compassionate care. The role will be working across day-to-day ambulance operations with the occasional event medical cover on the agenda too.

Job Summary

  • Provided emergency and urgent patient transport to a wide variety of patient groups and between a mixture of hospital and private settings, within the care of Spark Medical in accordance with policies and procedures, including pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Safely transfer patients to and from ambulances, using specialist equipment and manual handling skills.
  • Accurately complete all documentation relating to patients, vehicles and equipment and submit it to Spark Medical management when required.
  • Provide treatment up to the post-holder’s assessed ability and scope of practice in line with current best practice. e.g. JRCALC, NICE, HCPC, CoP, Pathfinder Guidelines.
  • To undertake best practice in medicines management, administration and documentation of all medicines including GSL, POM, and CDs. Act under PGDs where required.
  • Take relevant information and history from carers or others at the scene, reporting to other healthcare professionals, hospitals or others as required whilst ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained.
  • Be aware of the patient’s social and environmental condition and report any matters of concern to the appropriate person or body.
  • Actively participate in personal and environmental cleaning routines (including vehicles, equipment, and areas of the garaging facilities) to ensure that infection prevention and control standards are adhered to.
  • Carry out vehicle and equipment check at the start of and during each shift to ensure the readiness of the vehicle, equipment, and consumables to respond as required. Report all defects and damage in accordance with Spark Medical policies and procedures.
  • Achieve and maintain competence in all relevant skills and knowledge, actively engage in CPD events and complete the NQP Portfolio.
  • Work with experienced ECA and EMT members of staff within first 12 months. To introduce mentorship and Practice education development from 12-24 months.
  • Perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the band of the post and skills and qualifications of the post-holder.

Person Specification

Essential 

  • Minimum of Dip HE Paramedic Practice.
  • HCPC registered
  • Relevant post qualification competencies e.g. ALS in date
  • Hold a full UK manual driving licence with a maximum of 6 penalty points
  • Minimum of 12 months of driving experience since first holding UK driving licence
  • Demonstrable Paramedic Procedures: (Vascular Access (IV, IM, IO) Advanced airway management (Laryngoscopy and Supraglottic/iGel adjunct insertion) and ECG Interpretation)

Desirable

  • BSc Paramedic Science (+/- Combined Nursing)
  • Hold a full UK manual driving licence with C1 category
  • Hold IHCD/FutureQuals/equivalent emergency ambulance driving qualification
  • Minimum of 6 months of front-line experience post qualification
  • Experience of working with bariatric, paediatric and neonatal patients
  • Previous experience in healthcare/ pre-hospital setting, such as NHS Trust, Private or Voluntary organisation
  • Previous training in manual/patient handling
